Early Warning Smoke Detection for Lifts/Elevators
Early Warning Smoke Detection for Lifts/Elevators
Lifts/elevators are critical components of building infrastructure and must be considered as part of an overall life safety and evacuation strategy.
Installing fire detection systems in these environments traditionally has been difficult and costly. Maintenance also has been an issue because elevators have to be shut down for equipment to be serviced.
VESDA and ICAM aspirating smoke detection (ASD) systems by Xtralis provide reliable, early warning smoke detection for elevators and lifts.
In addition to early warning fire detection, Xtralis ASD systems also enable remote detection because the sampling pipe network can be designed so that elevator operation doesn’t have to be disrupted for normal maintenance. Such flexibility prevents costly downtime.
For larger, more sophisticated buildings, elevators may be used for evacuation to complement building stairwells. Reliable and early smoke detection helps to ensure safe and orderly evacuations.
The Xtralis ASD systems are placed outside the machine room and in shafts to ensure the detector is always accessible for testing and maintenance. The air-sampling holes typically are located at the top of the elevator shaft. In tall buildings, the sampling pipe runs down the shaft vertically to ensure sampling at multiple levels.
