VESDA-E VEA Receives EN54-20 Approval
FEATURED PRODUCTS: Xtralis VESDA-E VEA
DESCRIPTION:
Honeywell has announced that the Xtralis VESDA-E VEA addressable aspirating smoke detector (ASD) is now EN54-20 approved. This brings the next generation of smoke detectors to European markets whilst potentially lowering the total cost of ownership by up to 60 per cent when compared to traditional detection techniques.
VEA actively and continuously draws air samples from the environment to a centralized detector. It uses individual microbore tubes from each sampling location to analyze for smoke enabling a fire alarm to be raised as early as possible. Each microbore tube connecting VEA to the sampling point is continuously monitored for blockage and breakage with automated testing.
This VEA brings in two new innovations in Aspirating System Detection: sampling location addressability and end to end system integrity monitoring. These improvements enable centralized test and maintenance as well as uniform protection across a facility. In addition, three levels of alarms are programmable on the detector to ensure the right sensitivity for the environment and building managers. This approach to smoke detection provides greater reliability and protection: all testing and maintenance can occur at the central detector, without having to go room to room. The nuisance of testing interruptions is eliminated, considerably reducing the cost of testing and maintaining the detection system.
Field service engineers can also now have immediate access to system status and sampling results through WAN and wireless connectivity in the iVESDA mobile app, available on iOS and Android.
“VESDA-E VEA is a step change innovation that brings active air-sampling and laser-based smoke detection to environments traditionally served by passive spot or point detectors,” commented Wolfgang Jentzsch, general manager of Advanced Detection for Honeywell Home and Building Technologies. “Now healthcare, educational, hotel, correction and other sites with high occupancy can be protected with this exciting technology. Honeywell is bringing VESDA to areas where people congregate to ensure the very best fire prevention is available, and we believe this will be a turning point in the smoke detection market. VEA provides the active and preventative protection the industry has been waiting for. It’s the future of smoke detection available today,” Jentzsch added.
Xtralis VESDA-E VEA has already been well-received in American, Middle East, South East Asia markets, and with completion of EN54-20 approvals expects wide penetration in European markets.
